What to Do When You Can’t Get Ahead

Did you know: Black women are 2.8 times as likely as white women to aspire to a powerful position with a prestigious title. Studies show Black women are ready, willing and able to lead. Yet, highly credentialed and qualified, we are seen and not heard. We often are unrecognized in our work environments despite our numerous leadership roles in our communities.

One reason for this issue is many of us don’t understand our worth. As a result, we tend to prioritize other people and their needs over our own. Also, we struggle to put ourselves out there and claim our expertise. Consequently, we remain in positions that no longer serve us.  For those of us who seek entrepreneurship, we may struggle to achieve profitable and consistent business results month after month due to the same issues.

Does any of this sound like you?

One important step for you to achieve your next level of success is to invest in coaching and mentorship. Taking that crucial step to invest in my skills and knowledge with people who understood my particular walk as Black woman changed my life. Today, there is an awesome conference specifically created to support Black women on our journey (which I attend every year): SistaSense 2015 Back to Business Webinar Conference.

If you didn’t see my post on Facebook (I suggest you like the page for updates), I am a featured speaker for the event.

I think a good way to invest in your success is to invest in yourself. And there are a number of ways to do that. As you said coaching and having the right mentor is a great step. Having the right model, lead and support system can mean a world of difference when it comes to getting to the next level.
